Thought I’d let you know about http://www.npemaps.org.uk in case you haven’t heard of it already. They are creating a public domain database of exactly that. So far they have 25000 postcodes with 90% of prefixes covered.

Thanks, its a good point and I have been contributing postcodes to npemaps as well as freeourpostcode, in order to start trying to get a collection of usable postcodes.
However I generally get annoyed that we have to pay for postcodes that basically make Royal Mail job easier….
